| Norwich, Connecticut, Town Clerk Implements Internet Access to Land Records |
|
The Norwich, Connecticut, City and Town Clerk has become the first in the state to go live with Internet access to the City's land records indices and images.
In an effort to improve accessibility to public records, the Norwich City and Town Clerk now provides Internet access to land records indices and document images. Using software and technology provided by NewVision Systems Corporation, the public now can search the Norwich land records via the Internet from the convenience of their own PC's. Access to this service is available to members of the public who pay an annual fee to the Town Clerk. Town Clerk Beverly Muldoon anticipates that members of the real estate industry, particularly title searchers who until now would travel to City Hall to perform a title search, will subscribe to the service. It will also be a valuable resource for various city departments that regularly use land records information. Subscribers can perform title searches via the Internet, giving them access to the land records indices from 1928 and, with a mouse click, view document images from 1997. Subscribers may also print copies of documents and indices. |

| The addition of the Internet Access Module completes NewVision Systems Corporation's installation of its Official Records System for the Norwich Town Clerk. The completely integrated system handles the recording, indexing, storage and retrieval of documents maintained by the Town Clerk. Documents appear in the index immediately upon recordation, thus providing instant availability. Members of the public who do not subscribe to the Internet service can retrieve and display document images on PC's in the Town Clerk's office and recreate documents using a laser printer.
The addition of web access to the land records indices and images is a first in the State of Connecticut. It is representative of the ongoing commitment by the Norwich City and Town Clerk to improving public service. Professional title searchers in Connecticut typically travel from town hall to town hall each day to perform title searches. As more towns convert to NewVision's Official Records System, bringing the land records indices and documents to the Internet will mean that searchers can search properties in multiple towns without leaving their offices.
